·         Shirish M. Gadgeel, M.D., medical oncologist, leader of the Thoracic oncology Multidisciplinary Team at the Karmanos Cancer Center, President of the Medical Executive Committee of the Karmanos Cancer Center and associate professor of Hematology and oncology at Wayne State University School of Medicine, joined Karmanos in 2000. Dr. Gadgeel is also the medical director of the hematology/oncology inpatient unit. At Karmanos, Dr. Gadgeel is a member of various committees that review the scientific merit of proposed protocols to be conducted at Karmanos, and reviews and institutes various measures of quality of care for patients. He is also a member of the American Society of Clinical oncology and the Southwest oncology Group. His research focuses on conducting clinical and translational trials in the area of lung cancer and developmental therapeutics. Dr. Gadgeel's research interests have been funded by the National Cancer Institute, Southwest oncology Group, universities and pharmaceutical companies. He has won numerous awards including Wayne State University School of Medicine Teaching Award and the Merit Award from the American Society of Clinical Oncology. Dr. Gadgeel has authored more than 40 articles and seven book chapters, serves as reviewer for numerous journals, and sits on the editorial board of Clinical Lung Cancer. He received his M.D. in 1988 from Grant Medical College and J.J. Group of Hospitals at the University of Bombay in India. He completed a residency in internal medicine in India and an internship in internal medicine at LaGuardia Hospital in New York. Dr. Gadgeel completed a second residency in internal medicine and fellowship in hematology/oncology, both at Wayne State University School of Medicine. He also completed a fellowship in bone marrow transplantation at Wayne State University School of Medicine.
